2011 Driving for a Cure Recap
Well, as the golf clubs and shoes dry out, I thought I'd provide a little update on our progress for this year and a financial tally on the outing. First let me thank each and everyone of you who attended a sunny/stormy/hot/and cold day in Kutztown. It was a wild day of weather but it did not change the conviction to the cause of the 120 golfers who attended, you all are to be commended! Regardless of weather, every golfer showed and we had 150 for dinner including guests! All I can say is WOW! Here are a few highlights...
- Congratulations to the Glennon group winning at 11 under. They were a sentimental favorite for me since Kerry Glennon traveled all the way from the Carolina's to join us. Kerry has had APS Type 1 all his life and is a testament to what can be accomplished living with this challenging disorder. Congrats!
- We had my (very embarrassed) niece Sarah win 3 Tricky Tray's! Your crack team of organizers has already found a solution for 2012 to prevent that from happening next year so that we can make sure we all share in the raffles so stay tuned...on a more important note, at 4:30am this morning she delivered her baby girl. Veyda Theresa Weaber, welcome to the world, I already have a job for you at next year's tournament! Congrats Sarah!
- Photo moments...thanks to Lynn Charlton we have some great shots from this years event. See the link below to Shutterfly, one of our corporate sponsors, and feel free to take advantage of the wonderful rates they have for printing a picture of your favorite moment! Thanks Lynn and Shutterfly!
- Finally, the important part...after our crack team of accountants from Talarico & Tackett Accounting Firm reviewed the results, tallied the final pennies, and insured our Senior Accountant Francis paid all the remaining bills...we set a NEW record thanks to larger Corporate support this year. We set a record of $27,000 raised! A $5K increase over last year. My brother Tim has already set the bar for 2012. Breaking $30K net next year! He will give you time to relax before he starts his 2012 campaign so enjoy the R&R.
As I stated in my closing comments...we will break $250,000 raised this year in just 5 years. We will launch our 4th research project on this rare disorder by the end of 2011. We will continue to be a beacon of hope for all those families newly diagnosed with this condition. We will continue to update our website to reflect the changes and progress we are making with this disorder. Feel free to take a look, a link is provided directly to NORD for donations. www.apstype1.org
The tight group of families from around the country and world, some as far away as Australia, provide vital direction to new parents that are struggling to make sense of the news that their child has an incurable disorder. In 2006, we had no one to turn to, now we have a strong network of parents, families, and individuals with APS Type 1, sharing their stories and helping to guide families and their physicians on managing this challenging condition. All this would not be possible without the love, support, and prayers from all of you!
On behalf of all those afflicted with APS Type 1, and the Talarico and Tackett Families, we thank you for making our 2011 outing our best ever. We wish you and your families Health & Happiness in the year ahead and a terrific summer. Thank you!
